About Better calendars
I was thinking about a decimal clock as totally normal people sometimes do and eventually ended up doing some research about a decimal calendar (which might sound appealing at first, but ends up being very impractical) and came across other calendar proposals.
I wondered what date today, my birthday, and holidays would be on those calendars and how one would find that information. I looked for websites that did what Better calendars does, but couldn't find any that I found appealing so I decided to build it myself.
Why Better calendars?
I thought of other names, but this one stuck in my head and I think it will be memorable enough for people to be able to come back to it easily. I don't actually think those calendars are necessarily better, although they have lots of benefits over the one we use. I don't think we can reasonably expect our calendar system to change anytime soon unless a proposal comes along that is 100% better which is not the case for the World calendar or the International fixed calendar.
About the creator
Hi! 👋
I'm Michel (pronounced me·shell) and I've been building web products for over 15 years. My last two jobs were working at a two-sided marketplace startup that raised $ 34M (VarageSale) and a B2B SaaS with over $ 100M ARR for product managers.
I'm currently looking for a new role and building small products such as this website to learn, practice, and expand my portfolio.
About the architecture
Better calendars was built using Astro, TypeScript, and Svelte.
It is hosted on Netlify.
